Until next time,
Winter this year seemed short lived as the snow seemed to skip Tennessee and left in its stead nothing but rain and cold. As the sun has found its way back to our part of the world and given us beautiful days, I realize that spring is close, and with it will come spring cleaning.
This year, however, I know I need to clean out more than just my closet. Inspired by an article by Dr. Elson M. Haas in Total Health Magazine here are 5 things to consider "cleaning" this Spring...
This is the traditional form of Spring cleaning. It it is an important part of life that every so often we take an afternoon to go through our closets, dressers, cars, etc. and clean out all of the trash that we may have been avoiding taking out, and more importantly, get rid of the things we no longer use. I always try to find clothing and accessories that I know I never wear, or that no longer fit, and find a local Goodwill or equivalent to take them to because the truth is, in America, we throw out about 65 pounds per person of clothing each year. These clothes could be given away to families who are down on their luck and can’t afford to shop at the mall this spring season. So, I encourage you to find a charity or thrift store and consider giving back to those who don’t have as much as you do. This will not only free up space in your home, it will give you a sense of purpose for your cleaning this year. If you need more structure or guidance, check out this book, which has helped transform thousands of peoples’ homes and clutter tendencies. I know during the winter, because I spend so much time indoors, I tend to stock up on junk food and heavy foods that my body craves when it's cold. Now that it's getting warm and we can finally get back outside for walks in the park and bike rides and hikes, it's time to clear away the junk and start taking advantage of all the fresh foods that the warm weather will bring to the grocery store and local stands and markets. Help yourself feel and look great this spring with fresh and local foods!
Life can get really busy this time of year and it can become so overwhelming that we forget to take time for ourselves. Look through your schedule and clear out the things you don't really want or need to do. It's okay to say no to take more time for yourself and for those you love. Never feel guilty about saying “I’m sorry but I need to pass this time.” Remember that if you don't take care of...
